Sin Separates. – Isaiah 59:1-2

Isaiah 59:1-2 “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.”

baby-separation-anxiety

What is God saying to me? Sin Separates. God is in the sin forgiving business. “His hand is not shortened that it cannot save.” However, my “iniquities have made a separation between” me and my God. This position before God is not were all people need to live. Isaiah 57:15 says “For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: ‘I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.’”

How will I obey? I will spend time right now searching my heart (Psalm 139:23-24), confessing my sin (1 John 1:9) and repenting (Matthew 4:17)

Who will I tell? I am going to look for an opportunity to share with someone outside of my circle of influence.

Are you distant from God?  Sin separates.  Confess, Repent and receive forgiveness.

It’s all about grace, all the time. – Galatians 3:3

Galatians 3:3 “Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?”

Hdhut.blogspot.com (11)

What is God saying to me? I must walk by grace through faith. Paul has just emphasized that we are saved by grace through faith and not by works of the Law. In Galatians 2:16, he actually repeated it 3xs “…we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.” In chapter 3, Paul explains that we are not just converted but also sanctified by grace through faith.

How will I obey? I will spend time thanking God for Jesus on my way to work today.

Thanksgiving is an Offering – Psalm 50:14

Psalm 50:14 “Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving…”

V01p466002

What is God saying to me? I am commanded to be thankful. Verse 23 of the same chapter emphasizes this again: “The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies Me…”

How will I obey? I will count my blessings with my family at dinner tonight and prayerfully offer thanks to God.

Who will I tell? My family

What can you thank God for today? Worship Him through thanksgiving.

Satisfaction for a Thirsty Soul – Psalm 42:1-2

Psalm 42:1-2 “As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?”

Male-College-Student-Reading-Outside-By-A-Tree-In-The-Spring

What is God saying to me? Lasting satisfaction is not found in physical food. It is found in God.

How will I obey? I will answer this question: “When shall I come and appear before God?”  I will look for real times to drink deeply of God throughout my day. To kick it off, I will spend time in worship in the car on my way to work.

Who will I tell? Anna

Does your soul thirst? Ask yourself the question David did: “When shall I come and appear before God?”

If God calls you to it, He will empower you through it. – Nehemiah 2:20

What is God saying to me? If we are on a mission from God, we are empowered by God for that mission. I’m reminded of Acts 1:8 when Jesus said to his followers “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses…”

How will I obey? Consciously trust God to empower me as I serve Him today. Specifically, I will start each new task in prayer, inviting Him to help.

Who will I tell? My coffee shop friends.

Do you believe if God calls you to a task, He will empower you through the task?

Gaze Upon the Beauty of the Lord – Psalm 27:4

Psalm 27:4 “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.”

Romans 1:20

What is God saying to me? Like King David, my goal should be “to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.” I am reminded of Philippians 3:10-11 the Amplified Version “[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope] That if possible I may attain to the [spiritual and moral] resurrection [that lifts me] out from among the dead [even while in the body].

How will I obey? I will “seek” “to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord.” Today, I’m going to pray on the hour every hour for God to show me His glory.

Who will I tell? My neighbor

What were you doing the last time you were able “to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord?”

Leaders, be interceders. 1 Chronicles 21:16-17

1 Chronicles 21:16-17 “David looked up and saw the angel of the LORD standing between heaven and earth with his sword drawn, reaching out over Jerusalem. So David and the leaders of Israel put on burlap to show their deep distress and fell face down on the ground. And David said to God, ‘I am the one who called for the census! I am the one who has sinned and done wrong! But these people are as innocent as sheep—what have they done? O LORD my God, let your anger fall against me and my family, but do not destroy your people.'”

intercessory_prayer1

What is God saying to me?  The big idea in this story is that a leader’s sin doesn’t only affect him; it has consequences for the ones he leads.  However, a second theme jumped out to me today.  I must intercede for the people I lead.

How will I obey?  As I seek to follow Jesus today, I will spend 30 minutes dedicated to interceding for those I lead.

Who will I tell?   Curtis and Mason

Who can you intercede for today?

What is God saying to me?  I am alive to glorify God.  Breathing should equal praising.

How will I obey?  As I seek to follow Jesus today, I will praise the Lord each time I become conscious of my breathing.

Who will I tell?   The guys I am having lunch with today.

Stop right now and praise God for Who He is and what He has done.

1 Kings 19:11-13 – When God Whispers

1 Kings 19:11-13 (NLT) “Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the LORD told him. And as Elijah stood there, the LORD passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Picture I took from Mount Arbel in Israel looking out over Galilee. This is the mountain most religious leaders would retreat to at the time of Christ to pray.

What is God saying to me? God does not always speak when and/or how I expect Him to.

How will I obey? Today is going to be a hectic day.  I will listen for God to speak to me.

Who will I tell?  My daughter Anna as I take her to camp this morning.

Is your life stormy right now?  Listen to God.  Is your life quiet right now?  Listen to God.

Psalm 119:114 – Where to Find Hope

Psalm 119:114 “You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your Word.”

Screen Shot 2014-05-30 at 7.44.02 AM

What is God saying to me? Hope is found in the Word of God.  Over the last few days Psalm 119 has shown me this time and again.

How will I obey? I get to spend part of the day with my daughter.  We have been memorizing scripture in the evenings.  I will focus on a few of those verses with her today and talk with her about the hope they offer.

Who will I tell? My Dad

Where are you going to find hope?  Let God’s word be your hiding place and your shield.
