Matthew 13:52 “Then (Jesus) added, ‘Every teacher of religious law who becomes a disciple in the Kingdom of Heaven is like a homeowner who brings from his storeroom new gems of truth as well as old.’”

What is God saying to me? God can do incredible things with someone who knows the Bible that “becomes a disciple.” I am reminded of the testimony of Paul.

How will I obey? I know a gifted teacher who is educated in the Scripture. I will look for an opportunity to train him to follow Jesus as a disciple.

Who will I tell? The PLT

Matthew 9:12-13 “When Jesus heard this, he said, ‘Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.’ Then he added, ‘Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: “I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.” For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.’”

What is God saying to me? Many “think they are righteous” apart from Jesus. “But, I am a good person…” As I seek to follow Jesus everyday, I must destroy this mentality in me.

Ezekiel 36:25-27 “Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.”

What is God saying to me? God is a God of new life. He washes us, gives us a new heart and gives us His Spirit. Why? “So that you will follow My decrees and be careful to obey My regulations.”

How will I obey? Knowing I am clean, new and empowered by the Spirit, I will obey today. I will claim this identity, out loud, throughout the day.

Who will I tell? The men who hold me accountable.

Ezekiel 16:16 “You used the lovely things I gave you to make shrines for idols, where you played the prostitute. Unbelievable! How could such a thing ever happen?”

What is God saying to me?  I’m struck by the reality that we often take the blessings that God gives us and turn them into idols.  Maybe it is vocation, appearance, giftedness, a home, vacation, hobby or even a friend, spouse or child.

How will I obey?  How could this happen? Blessings become idols when we do not remember who gave them to us.  God says “You used the lovely things I gave to you… (italics mine)”  When we remember where the blessing comes from, we praise the creator, not the creature (Romans 1:25).

Ezekiel 3:1-4 (NLT) The voice said to me, “Son of man, eat what I am giving you—eat this scroll! Then go and give its message to the people of Israel.” So I opened my mouth, and he fed me the scroll. “Fill your stomach with this,” he said. And when I ate it, it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth. Then he said, “Son of man, go to the people of Israel and give them my messages.”

Ezekiel 3:10-11 Then he added, “Son of man, let all my words sink deep into your own heart first. Listen to them carefully for yourself. Then go to your people in exile and say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says!’ Do this whether they listen to you or not.”

What is God saying to me? I cannot pass what I do not possess. I must take in God’s Word deeply before I can give it out.

How will I obey? I am going to adjust my morning devos this week and emphasize prayer before I begin to read Scripture. I will ask the Holy Spirit to fill my stomach and let all His Words sink deep into my heart.

Who will I tell? The team that I teach with in our church.
