2 Kings 2:9 – Double Portion

Today’s Reading: 2 Kings 1:1‐2:25, Acts 13:42‐14:7, Psalm 139:1‐24, Proverbs 17:19‐21

2 Kings 2:9 “When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.”

Before Elijah is taken up into heaven by chariots of fire, he asks Elisha what he can do for him.  Elisha asks for a double portion of his spirit.  Studying first and second kings, we see that Elisha ends up performing twice as many miracles as Elijah.

Apply: I have the opportunity to sit down today with an older man that has poured into me, I respect greatly and that God has used in mighty ways.  I want to ask him to pray that God will give me a double portion of his spirit.

Are you spending time around people whose spirit you desire a double portion of?
